A late-night surprise in Professor Colony

Say your husband works long hours and his birthday falls on a weekday. You book the 11 PM slot while he is out with a friend near Jai Prakash Chowk. When he walks back in, the bedroom ceiling is covered in balloons with ribbons hanging down, and his name is spelt out above the bed. The cake is from your side, and the photos come from everyone's phones.

Planning a birthday at home in Bhabua

• In a mohalla where neighbours know every visitor at your gate, a surprise can leak early. Pick a slot when the birthday person is out, and keep the booking with one family member.
• During Navratri many Bhabua families go for darshan at Mundeshwari Dham. If the birthday falls that week, keep the decoration for the evening after you return.
• If your area sees evening power cuts, keep an inverter light or torch ready so the cake moment is not spent in the dark.
• Booking a hall instead of the house? Ask the manager what time the room is free so your slot does not clash with another function.

What is included

Every design page lists what comes with it, such as balloons, foil letters or a banner, and the decorator puts it all up. Cake, candles and food stay with you.
