A results-day surprise in Shanti Nagar

Say your younger sister has just got her board results and the family in Shanti Nagar, Dumra, wants to mark it before relatives start calling. You book a simple design for the 6 PM slot while she is out at a friend's place. The decorator puts up balloons around the sofa and across one wall of the drawing room. When she walks back in, everyone is waiting with a box of laddoos, and the photos reach the family WhatsApp group within minutes.

Planning balloons in Sitamarhi: a few local tips

• Many town roads are only 3.5 to 5.5 metres wide, and junctions like Mehsaul Chowk and Kargil Chowk see heavy traffic. Share a nearby landmark and keep your phone free around the slot time.
• In Vivah Panchami week, lanes near Janaki Sthan and the road to Punaura Dham fill with pilgrims. If you live close by, book an earlier slot or allow extra time.
• Parts of the town are low-lying and Sitamarhi is flood-prone in the monsoon. If your lane waterlogs, choose an upstairs room and mention the dry way in.
• For a marriage hall or hotel room, ask the manager when the space is free for setup before you pick a slot.

What is included

Everything listed on the design you choose, put up by the decorator at your address. Cake, snacks and the venue are arranged by you.
