Planning a birthday at home in Banka

• During Durga Puja, devotees crowd the Karharia Durga Mandir. If the birthday falls in Puja week, book an early slot and warn the decorator about the crowd near the temple.
• The Bounsi mela at the foot of Mandar Hill begins on Makar Sankranti and runs for about a month. If relatives are in town for it, a weekend party can be planned around their visit.
• For a party in a marriage hall or hotel banquet room, confirm the entry time with the manager so the setup finishes before guests arrive.
• Old mohalla lanes can be tight. Share a landmark such as PBS College or the Sadar Hospital Road turning along with your address.
