Naming ceremony (Namakarana) and cradle ceremony

In Karnataka the naming and cradle ceremony (often called Thottilu) are usually held together at home. We decorate a backdrop with the baby's name, a frame around the cradle and a seating area for the family and priest.

Annaprashan

Things to Keep in Mind with a Newborn at Home

• We finish the setup before the baby arrives, so there is no noise or balloon popping around a sleeping infant.
• Designs keep balloons and small props well away from where the baby will lie. Keep loose balloons out of reach once the celebration is over.
• If you are coming home from a hospital in Whitefield, Hebbal, Jayanagar or on Bannerghatta Road, share an approximate discharge time so we can finish before you reach home.
• Name banners are custom-printed, so place the order early and double-check the spelling. Customised items are non-refundable.

How to Choose the Right Design

1. Measure the space. Note the width of the wall or area where the backdrop will go. Designs with a full arch need roughly 8 to 10 feet; room surprises need only a normal bedroom or living room.
2. Decide the mood. Soft pastels feel calm and elegant, chrome gold and silver feel celebratory, and bright primary colours feel playful.
3. Count the guests. For a small family celebration, a room or corner design is enough. For 30 or more guests, choose a backdrop so everyone has a photo spot.
4. Check what is included. Every design page lists its balloons, props, lights and banners. Compare two or three designs before choosing.
5. Book early for weekends. Friday to Sunday evenings are the busiest slots in Bangalore.

• Door arch: a balloon arch around the main door so the first thing you see is "Welcome Home".
• Living room backdrop: a pastel backdrop with the baby's name, for the first family photo.

Traditional Ceremonies in Karnataka Homes

In many Kannada families the naming ceremony and the cradle ceremony happen on the same day. The baby is placed in a decorated cradle, the name is whispered in the baby's ear, and relatives gather for blessings and lunch. A backdrop with the chosen name, fresh-looking floral-style decoration around the cradle, and a clean area for the priest are the three things that matter most. For Annaprashan, the baby's first taste of rice, a low decorated seat and a name backdrop are enough; the rest of the space is for family.

Planning by Part of the City

East Bangalore and Outer Ring Road

Whitefield, Marathahalli, Brookefield, Bellandur, Sarjapur Road, CV Raman Nagar and Indiranagar are full of large gated apartment communities close to tech parks. Parties here usually happen in the flat or the society clubhouse on weekends, or late on weekday evenings after work. Visitor registration at the gate is almost always required, and clubhouses often have fixed booking slots, so plan the setup time inside your slot.

South Bangalore

Koramangala, HSR Layout, BTM Layout, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Banashankari, Bannerghatta Road and Electronic City mix independent houses, older layouts and newer apartments. Independent homes give more freedom with walls, gates and terraces, which makes them good for bigger backdrops and entrance arches. Electronic City and Bannerghatta Road are farther out, so book a little earlier for evening slots.

North Bangalore

Hebbal, Yelahanka, Thanisandra, Kalyan Nagar, HRBR Layout and Devanahalli include many newer apartment projects and hotels near the airport road. Hotel room surprises for travellers are common here. If you are booking a hotel near the airport, check the hotel's decoration policy first.

West and Central Bangalore

Rajajinagar, Malleshwaram and Vijayanagar have many independent homes and joint families. Traditional ceremonies and larger family gatherings are common, so designs with space for elders to sit and for rituals in front of the backdrop work best.

What Happens on the Day

1. Before the day: double-check the address, landmark and gate or parking instructions you entered at checkout, and keep your phone reachable.
2. Arrival: the decorator reaches at the start of your slot with all materials. Keep the room or area clear of furniture you want moved.
3. Setup: most welcome and ceremony setups take around 1 to 2 hours; larger backdrops take longer. You do not need to help, but someone should be available to answer questions.
4. Final check: look over the setup with the decorator before they leave, and check names and spellings on banners.
5. After the party: most customers take the balloons down themselves once the celebration is over. Pop latex balloons and put them in the dry waste bin.

Getting Good Photos of the Setup

• Turn on the fairy lights and dim the main lights a little in the evening; the setup looks much warmer in photos.
• Keep the area in front of the backdrop clear of chairs, bags and footwear before guests start taking pictures.
• Shoot at chest height, straight on, for group photos, and from slightly lower for a single person in front of an arch.
• Take a photo of the setup before guests arrive. It is the only time it will look exactly as designed.

Before You Bring the Baby Home

• Share the expected discharge time with us and a family member's number for access.
• Keep the path from the door to the baby's room clear.
• Set the room temperature comfortably; newborns are sensitive to heat and draughts.
• Keep a clean, quiet space for the mother to rest, away from the decorated area if possible.
• Have someone ready to take the first family photo at the door.
