A new baby in a Lucknow family is welcomed with ceremony. There's the day the mother brings the baby home from the hospital. In many Hindu households there is the chhathi on the sixth day, the barahi or naamkaran soon after, and, in many UP families, the kuan pujan, when the new mother is taken to worship at a well or water source. Muslim families gather for the aqiqah, often on the seventh day. Months later comes the Annaprashan, the first taste of rice, and for some children the mundan, the first haircut. Each is an occasion for the family to gather, for sweets to be shared, and for the house to look festive.
Funtook's newborn welcome decoration in Lucknow covers them all. You can begin with a gentle doorway welcome at ₹1,499 or go all the way to a personalised name backdrop at ₹8,499. Each design page lists exactly what's included, and our decorators have everything in place before the family, or the guests, arrive.
Homecoming. A soft balloon display at the door or in the drawing room, with a "Welcome Home" foil, makes the baby's first step into the house feel special. Our most affordable option is Welcome Baby Decoration Home, ₹1,499. For a girl, the baby girl collection includes the Welcome Princess Baby Girl Theme (₹2,999); for a boy, the baby boy collection includes the Baby Boy Beginnings Decoration (₹2,899).
Chhathi, naamkaran and aqiqah. When relatives gather to bless the baby, a name backdrop becomes the family's photo wall. The Welcome Baby Backdrop (₹4,999), the Baby Homecoming Flower Setup (₹5,500) with fresh-flower accents, and the Home Decoration for New Baby Born (₹5,999) suit these gatherings.
Annaprashan. Our Annaprashan decors range from the ₹2,699 Annaprashan Home Decor to the ₹5,499 Annaprashan Home Decoration, with a seat area and space for the rice ritual.
Twins. Double blessings need two names on display. Choose between Twins Baby Welcome Decoration, ₹2,499, or the fuller Twins Born Baby Decoration, ₹2,999.

Chhathi and barahi. On the sixth day, women of the family gather, often singing sohar, the traditional songs that celebrate a birth, and the mother and baby are blessed. Some families mark the twelfth day, the barahi, with the naming. The setup needs a comfortable seat for the mother holding the baby, space for the women around her, and a spot for the priest if there's a puja.
Kuan pujan. In many Awadhi and UP families, the new mother, dressed festively, visits a well or water source with the women of the family for a small ritual of thanks, accompanied by songs. The home is usually decorated for the gathering that follows. A marigold-and-pastel welcome setup suits it.
Aqiqah. Many Muslim families in Lucknow, especially in the old city and in Aminabad, Nakhas and Daliganj, hold the aqiqah around the seventh day, when the baby's hair is shaved, the name is announced and a feast is shared with family and the needy. A graceful backdrop in white, gold or soft green, with the baby's name, gives the family a place for photographs during the gathering.
Annaprashan and mundan. Around six months, the Annaprashan marks the baby's first rice. The mundan, the first haircut, is often held in the first or third year, at a temple or at home, and many families follow it with a celebration. The Annaprashan designs, and later the kids' designs, suit both.
Other families. Christian families celebrate a baptism, often at a church such as St Joseph's Cathedral in Hazratganj, followed by a lunch at home; Sikh families may hold a naming at the gurdwara; Bengali families save the big celebration for the mukhe bhaat. Tell us which ceremony you're planning, and roughly how many guests to expect, so we can suggest the right size and keep the right spaces clear.
Lucknow's large hospitals and nursing homes, from Gomti Nagar to Raebareli Road and Aliganj, rarely confirm an exact discharge time in advance. The practical approach: reserve a morning slot for the day the doctor expects to send you home, hand a spare key to a relative or a neighbour you trust, and ask whoever is at the hospital to message when the bill is being settled. A welcome setup takes around an hour, so it's almost always ready in time. If the stay is extended, call us straight away to try to shift the slot. And keep balloons for the house rather than the ward; hospitals generally don't allow them in patient rooms.
Our newborn setups are built with the baby in mind. The decorator finishes and leaves before the baby arrives. Balloon work stays up high or around the perimeter, well clear of the cradle and wherever the mother nurses or changes the baby. We leave out glitter, loose petals and small props near the baby's spaces, and run light cables along walls. Take the balloons down within a few days, and dispose of any burst latex immediately; once a baby begins to roll and crawl, even a small fragment is a choking risk. In Lucknow's summer, keep the baby's room cool without pointing a cooler directly at the cot; in winter, keep it warm and draught-free, with heaters well away from both the baby and the balloons.
A Lucknow naming ceremony or aqiqah is, among other things, a feast. Relatives expect to be fed well, and the kitchen, or the caterer, is usually the busiest part of the house. Plan the space so the two don't collide: the backdrop and the mother's seat in the drawing room, the food in the dining area or on the terrace, and a quiet bedroom for feeds and naps. The mother, who may still be recovering, should have a comfortable chair with a cushion, water within reach and permission to slip away when she's tired. Elders deserve the seats with the best view of the baby. And in the old city, where many families still share courtyards with neighbours, the whole lane is often part of the celebration, so a small welcome display at the door is a nice touch for neighbours dropping by.
Many Lucknow babies are born into joint families, with grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins all under one roof or a few lanes away. It's wonderful support for new parents, and it means the welcome can be a big, warm affair. It also means planning for a crowd. Keep the photo area uncluttered, give the grandparents the chairs closest to the mother and baby, and nominate one cousin as the family photographer, so the new parents can appear in the pictures too. If grandparents are travelling from Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad or further, time the ceremony so they can arrive rested.
If the budget allows only one decoration, choose the occasion the most people will see. The homecoming is intimate, and a simple setup is enough to make the first photo special. The chhathi, naming ceremony, aqiqah or Annaprashan brings in the extended family, and the backdrop appears in every group photograph and video, so that's where a larger, more personal design earns its place. Many families book a small welcome first and a fuller backdrop for the ceremony a week or two later.
These weeks pass in a blur, and the photographs become the family's memory of them. Have someone film the moment the baby is carried through the decorated doorway. Take a quiet portrait of the parents with the baby in front of the backdrop before guests arrive. If there are great-grandparents, gather four generations together; it's often the most treasured picture of all. Keep the flash off near the baby, and rely on daylight or the soft glow of fairy lights, which is kinder to tiny eyes and flatters every skin tone.
A newborn arriving between late April and June comes into Lucknow's harshest heat, with temperatures that can pass 44°C. Hold ceremonies in the morning or in a cooled room, keep the baby out of direct airflow, and keep the guest list short so the room doesn't overheat. Monsoon babies, from July to September, arrive into humidity and heavy rain; plan indoor ceremonies and allow relatives extra travel time. Winter babies, from December to January especially, arrive into fog and cold nights; a midday ceremony in an inner room, with heaters kept at a safe distance from both the baby and the balloons, is the most comfortable choice.
Powder blue with white is the classic for a boy, blush pink with ivory for a girl, and plenty of families now pick something neutral, such as oatmeal with gold, pale mint with white, or gentle pastel stripes. For a chhathi or kuan pujan gathering, yellow and marigold with green leaves feel traditional. For an aqiqah, white, gold and soft green feel graceful. A Lucknow favourite is an ivory-on-ivory look with pearly chrome accents, a nod to chikankari, which suits every ceremony and every outfit.
Many Lucknow families settle the name only after consulting a priest, an elder or the family's traditions, and for an aqiqah the name is often announced at the gathering itself. Book the printed board once the name is final, and check the spelling letter by letter; Ayaan and Ayan, or Myra and Maira, are easily confused. The board is printed for your order and isn't refundable. If you'd like to reveal the name at the ceremony, ask, and the decorator will leave it covered until the elders are ready to announce it to the gathering.
We decorate across Lucknow. In Gomti Nagar, Gomti Nagar Extension, Sushant Golf City and Vrindavan Yojana, most homes are in gated societies; register the decorator at the gate. In Indira Nagar, Mahanagar, Aliganj and Jankipuram, independent houses with drawing rooms suit larger naming backdrops. In the old city around Chowk, Aminabad and Nakhas, lanes are narrow, so share the nearest point a vehicle can reach. In Aashiana, Alambagh and Rajajipuram, a mix of houses and flats; add a landmark.
The decorator calls a day ahead to confirm the address, the spelling of the name and the wall to use. A homecoming setup takes about an hour; a naming, aqiqah or Annaprashan backdrop two to three hours. Read the name aloud once they're done, and ask which pieces are best removed first once the baby has settled in.
