Picture a rooftop evening in Koshi Colony

Say your younger brother has just turned eighteen and the family wants a small party on the roof of your house in Koshi Colony. You book a balloon arch for a 5 PM slot, once the afternoon sun has softened. The decorator ties the arch along the parapet and adds a few bunches by the staircase, while your mother fries pakoras downstairs. By the time the cousins from Jayprakash Nagar climb up, the roof is ready for photos against the evening sky.

Balloon tips for Araria roofs and homes

• After a heavy downpour, some lanes in town, including parts of Ashram Mohalla and Kharahiya Basti, have been reported to hold water for a while. In the rainy months keep the setup indoors and send the decorator the driest way in.
• The Durga Puja mela and Kali Puja, when a jhanki goes up at Kali Mandir Chowk, pull big crowds into the centre. If your date falls in those days, a morning slot is easier for everyone.
• Give a landmark people in Araria already use, such as ADB Chowk, the Zero Mile bus stand, the Town Hall near Chandni Chowk or Araria Court station, along with your lane.
• For a roof party, clear the parapet of flower pots and clothes lines before the slot so the arch has room.

What is included
