The arrival of a baby in Jamshedpur sets off a chain of small celebrations, each shaped by the family's roots. There is the day the mother brings the baby home. Bihari and North Indian families mark the chhathi on the sixth day and the naamkaran soon after. In Bengali homes, the big event of the first year is the Annaprashan, or mukhe bhaat, when the baby tastes rice for the first time, usually fed by the maternal uncle. Odia, South Indian, Punjabi, Christian and tribal families in the city have their own ways of welcoming a child. What they share is a wish to make the home look joyful for the baby's first photographs.
Funtook's newborn welcome decoration in Jamshedpur is built for all of these moments. Designs range from ₹1,499 for a simple welcome at the door up to ₹8,499 for a customised backdrop with the baby's name, and each design page shows exactly what is included. You choose the design and a time slot, and our decorators have it ready before the baby, or the guests, arrive.
The simplest and most emotional setup: balloons in soft colours, a "Welcome Baby" foil and a little arrangement at the door or in the living room, so the first step into the house feels special. Start with the Welcome Baby Decoration Home at ₹1,499, or browse the baby girl and baby boy collections, where designs such as the Little One Homecoming Decoration (₹2,399) and the Homecoming Baby Welcome Decoration (₹2,699) are built for this moment.
When relatives gather to bless the baby and announce the name, the backdrop becomes the family's photo wall. Name-led designs like the Name Revealing Decor Ring (₹4,999) or the Welcome Baby Backdrop Decor (₹6,499) put the baby's name at the centre. For a more personal look, the Customized Baby Boy Welcome Decor (₹8,499) is our most elaborate newborn design.
In Jamshedpur's many Bengali families, the Annaprashan is often bigger than the first birthday. The baby is dressed in a traditional outfit, the maternal uncle feeds the first grains of rice, and there is a spread of dishes on a silver or brass plate. Many families also place a set of objects, such as a book, a pen, soil and jewellery, before the baby to see which one they reach for. Our Annaprashan decors are designed around this, from the Annaprashan Home Decor (₹2,699) to the Annaprashan Home Decoration and Annaprashan Rice Ceremony (₹5,499 each).
Double the joy calls for a design with room for two names. See the Twins Baby Welcome Decoration (₹2,499) and the Twins Born Baby Decoration (₹2,999).

No one can say exactly when a hospital will discharge a mother and baby, which makes timing the surprise tricky. What works for most Jamshedpur families is this: book a morning or early-afternoon slot on the day the doctor expects to discharge, hand a house key to a relative or a neighbour, and ask whoever is at the hospital to send a message the moment the paperwork is done. A welcome setup takes roughly an hour, so a morning slot is almost always ready before an afternoon discharge. If the doctor keeps the mother another day, call us as soon as you know so we can try to shift the slot.
Whether the baby is born at a large hospital in Bistupur or a nursing home in Sakchi or Mango, don't plan the decoration for the hospital room itself; most hospitals don't allow balloons in patient areas. Home is the right place for the welcome.
A newborn's safety comes before any photograph, so our newborn setups follow a few rules. Everything is finished and the decorator has left before the baby enters the house. Balloons are placed high or at the edges of the room, never near the cot, the feeding chair or the changing mat. There are no loose petals, confetti or tiny props where the baby will be. Fairy light cables run along walls rather than across the floor. After two or three days, take the balloons down; by then most will have softened, and any latex balloon that bursts leaves pieces that become a choking hazard once the baby starts to crawl.
Pale blue with white and silver is the classic for a boy, and blush pink with white and gold for a girl. Many families now prefer neutral palettes like cream and gold, sage and white or a soft pastel rainbow, which also suit a naming ceremony where the colours need to work with everyone's clothes. For an Annaprashan, Bengali families often like red, white and gold, which match the baby's traditional outfit and the brass or silver plate. If the ceremony has a puja, marigolds and green leaves add a festive, traditional touch.
The printed name is the part everyone photographs and the part that most often needs correcting. Confirm the final name with both sides of the family before booking; many families finalise it only after consulting the priest or an elder. Check the English spelling letter by letter, because names like Aarush and Arush, or Ishani and Eshani, are both common. Printed boards are made just for your order and can't be refunded. If you want the name kept secret until the ceremony, tell us, and the decorator can cover the board until the reveal.
Few Indian cities have as many communities living side by side as Jamshedpur, and every one of them has its own first-year rituals:
We don't lead any ritual, but we can make the space ready for it. Tell us the ceremony in your order notes, and we'll keep the right area clear and suggest colours that suit it.
If the budget allows only one, think about who will see it. The homecoming is intimate: parents, grandparents, maybe an older sibling. A simple setup under ₹2,500 makes that first moment lovely and gives you the photo of the baby being carried in. A naming ceremony or Annaprashan brings in relatives and neighbours, and the backdrop appears in every group photograph and video, so a bigger design pays off there. Many Jamshedpur families do both, spaced a few weeks or months apart.
A newborn's first months pass in a blur, and the photos become the family's memory of them. Ask someone to film the moment the baby is carried through the decorated doorway. Take a portrait of the parents holding the baby in front of the name backdrop before the guests arrive, when the room is calm. If great-grandparents are present, a four-generation photograph is priceless. At an Annaprashan, capture the first spoonful of rice and the object the baby reaches for. Keep the camera flash off near the baby; natural light from a window or the soft glow of fairy lights is gentler and looks better.
Jamshedpur's young parents often have their own parents far away, in Kolkata, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi or a village in Bihar or Odisha, and the grandparents' arrival is a celebration in itself. If they are coming for the naming ceremony or Annaprashan, plan the date around their train or flight, and keep comfortable chairs with a good view of the baby and the ritual. Grandmothers usually want to hold the baby for the photographs, so a sofa in front of the backdrop works better than standing space alone. Elderly guests may also find stairs difficult, so for a ground-floor home or a flat with a lift, keep the setup where they can reach it easily.
In April, May and June the city is very hot, so keep the baby and the setup indoors with the room cooled in advance, and avoid terrace functions. The monsoon, from late June to September, brings heavy rain; plan naming ceremonies inside. October to February is ideal, with cool, comfortable days, and it is when many families schedule the Annaprashan if the baby's sixth or seventh month falls in that window.
The decorator will call ahead to confirm the address, the name to be printed and where you want the setup. They arrive at the start of your slot with all materials. A homecoming setup takes about an hour; a naming or Annaprashan backdrop takes two to three hours. Before they leave, check the name and ask them to point out anything you should take down first when the baby is home.
