Children in Ranchi grow up with a lot to be excited about: winter picnics at Kanke Dam, trips to the zoo at Ormanjhi, the lights of Durga Puja pandals, Christmas along Purulia Road. Birthdays are one more reason to celebrate, and once a child has a favourite character, the party gets a theme. A jungle for the one who can name every animal at the zoo, Frozen for the girl who sings "Let It Go" on repeat, Spiderman for the boy who climbs everything in the house. Funtook's kids theme decoration in Ranchi brings that theme to your living room, terrace or hall.
You can spend as little as ₹1,399 on a cheerful cluster of character balloons with a banner, or as much as ₹8,500 on a stage-worthy backdrop with arches, props and life-size figures. Whatever you choose, the design page spells out its contents. After booking, all you do is point our decorator to the right wall.
The easiest way is to ask the birthday child, and the hardest part is getting them to choose just one. Here's how the themes in our catalogue usually match up with ages and personalities.
Babies and toddlers (one to two). They respond to the songs and colours they know. Cocomelon and Baby Shark are the clear favourites, with Boss Baby close behind for first birthdays. Try the Baby Shark Birthday Balloon Setup (₹2,499) or the Ring Cocomelon Birthday Decoration (₹4,499).
Animal lovers (two to six). The jungle theme is a hit with children who love the zoo, and it suits both boys and girls. The Baby Jungle Safari Decoration (₹3,999) and the Jungle Theme Backdrop Decoration (₹4,499) are popular.
Little princesses and dreamers (three to eight). Frozen, unicorn, mermaid and Barbie are the go-to themes. The Frozen Princess Birthday Theme Decoration (₹5,999) and the Ocean Mermaid Birthday Decoration (₹2,799) are favourites.
Action heroes (five to ten). The superhero theme with Spiderman or Batman suits energetic children. Sports fans, and in the hometown of a famous cricket captain there are many, often go for bold team colours with the Football Theme Birthday Decoration (₹4,499) as a base.
Everything else. Dinosaurs, Mickey and Minnie, Peppa Pig, Tom and Jerry, Shinchan, cars, butterflies, rainbows and Wednesday are in all theme decors.
| Budget | What you get | Best for |

Home. In the flats of Lalpur, Kokar, Bariatu and the new societies along Ratu Road, a themed wall with a half arch fits the living room and leaves space for games. In the bigger houses of Harmu, Argora, Ashok Nagar and Morabadi, you can go larger. Shift the sofa out of the way a day early, and borrow a solid table for the cake if yours is wobbly.
Terrace. Ranchi's winter afternoons, from November to February, are made for terrace parties: sunny, dry and cool. Start early in the afternoon, though, because it gets chilly fast after sunset, especially in December and January. In summer, terraces are only comfortable after dark, and in the monsoon only if covered.
Hall. For bigger guest lists, community halls, banquet rooms and restaurant party halls around Main Road, Lalpur, Kanke Road and Harmu are common choices. Ask the venue when our decorator can get in, how long you have the hall, and whether tape, nails or helium balloons are allowed.
First birthdays here are big family events. Grandparents come from Hazaribagh, Bokaro or Jamshedpur, uncles and aunts from wherever they work, and neighbours from the whole lane. Many families start the day with a puja, a church blessing or a visit to Pahari Mandir, and hold the party in the evening. The child won't remember the theme, so choose one that photographs beautifully: soft jungle, Cocomelon or Boss Baby in pastel tones. Centre the design on the baby's name and a large "1", and ask for it at seated height so a parent can hold the baby in front of it. For a large hall party with a stage, compare the birthday organiser packages in Ranchi.
Summer holidays in May and early June mean daytime parties, but afternoons can be warm even on the plateau; keep the party indoors with a cooler or AC and balloons away from sunny windows. The monsoon, from mid-June to September, is heavy, so indoor venues are safest. October brings Durga Puja, when families are out visiting pandals and some travel, so parties near the pujas need planning. November to February is the best season of all, with Christmas week especially festive. Winter weekends fill quickly, so book a week ahead.
Parents in Ranchi often plan a lavish spread and then watch the children ignore it. Little guests eat fast, in small amounts, and only things they recognise. A separate children's table with mini samosas, fries, noodles, small sandwiches, cut fruit and juice, served before the adults' dinner, keeps them happy and out of the grown-ups' way. Keep sticky sweets and chocolate cake away from the backdrop until after the photographs, and put a bin and tissues near the children's table. For toddlers, a few plain snacks such as biscuits or rice puffs save the day when a fussy eater refuses everything else.
Children's parties go best when they're short and have a clear shape. Aim for about two hours in total. Let the first half-hour be arrivals, with something to keep early guests busy, such as crayons and paper at a table or a bubble machine by the door. Spend the next forty minutes on games, the cake at around the one-hour mark while everyone still has energy, then food, and send children home with return gifts before they tire. If you've hired an entertainer, slot them in after the cake; a magic show or puppet act holds attention while parents chat.
With a room full of excited children, a little care goes a long way. Burst latex is the main hazard for toddlers, so whoever is in charge of the balloons should gather scraps as soon as they appear. Helium ribbons should be short, and the backdrop is for looking at, not climbing. Our decorators route light wires along walls. Children with latex allergies can be accommodated with foil balloons if you let us know ahead of time.
Ranchi has one of the largest Christian communities in eastern India, and December here has a real festive glow, with lit churches, stars hung outside homes and carol singers in the evenings. Children with birthdays in December often want to combine the two celebrations. A Frozen or winter-wonderland look in blues, whites and silver fits the season beautifully, as does a red, green and gold palette with a "Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday" twist. Hold the party in the afternoon, when the sun is warm, and keep an indoor space ready for after sunset. Christmas week is the busiest time for children's parties in the city, so book well ahead.
Return gifts can quietly become one of the biggest costs of a children's party. Sensible options that children still love include theme stickers and a small colouring book, a character water bottle or tiffin box, a pencil kit, a small puzzle, or a pack of crayons with a mini notebook. For a jungle theme, small plastic animals are cheap and a hit; for Frozen, hair clips; for superheroes, paper masks made at the party itself. Local stationery and toy shops around Main Road and Upper Bazar usually stock character items in bulk. Wrap them in paper that matches the theme colours, and hand them out at the door rather than during the party, so nothing gets lost.
Before any guests arrive, take a picture of the birthday child alone with the backdrop in daylight; it's usually the photo that gets framed. During the cake-cutting, stand the child a step in front of the backdrop so the characters stay visible behind them. Nominate an aunt or uncle as the photographer, so both parents appear in the pictures. After sunset, switch off harsh tube lights and let the fairy lights do the work. Finish with a group photo of all the children holding their return gifts, which becomes a lovely record of that year's friends.
When a party moves to a hall, costs shift. The hall rent and food for adults usually outweigh the decoration, followed by the cake, return gifts, a photographer and perhaps an entertainer. The decoration should match the room: a themed wall is lost in a large banquet hall, while a big backdrop in a small community room leaves no space for games. Decide the venue and guest count first, then choose the design size. If you're unsure, call us with the room's dimensions and we'll suggest a fit.
A children's party in Ranchi often brings together families of many backgrounds, and small touches can make everyone feel at home. Adivasi families sometimes add a round of traditional song or dance, which children join in enthusiastically. Bengali families may serve payesh alongside the cake. Marwari and Bihari families often begin with a short puja for the child's well-being, and Christian families with a prayer. Muslim families may time the party around prayer hours. None of this changes the decoration, but a little space in front of the backdrop for a puja plate or a prayer, and a food table that reflects the family's own traditions, make the day feel personal rather than generic.
Parents who have thrown a few parties tend to share the same lessons. Finishing the setup too close to the start time means early relatives walk in on the decorator at work. A backdrop opposite a bright window turns every photo into a silhouette. A theme chosen by the parents rather than the child falls flat on the day. And squeezing a large design into a small flat leaves the children nowhere to play. A little planning avoids all four.
Most themes carry a board with the child's name and age, printed specially for your order, so it can't be changed or refunded once made. Send the spelling exactly as you'd like it; a missing "h" in Aarohi or an extra "a" in Vihaan only shows up in the photos. Twins or siblings sharing a party need a design with space for two names; call us if you're unsure which ones work.
A cake in the theme's colours, character return gifts and a playlist tie everything together; our list of Hindi birthday songs covers the cake-cutting. For a jungle birthday, a morning at the Birsa zoo in Ormanjhi makes the day unforgettable. For girls' party ideas, see 21 magical birthday decor ideas for girls.
Not every child wants a character. Bright, theme-free options are on birthday decoration in Ranchi, especially the kids special range. A baby brother or sister on the way? Look at newborn welcome decoration in Ranchi. Relatives who can't make it can send a balloon bouquet in Ranchi, and all our balloon arches are listed under balloon decoration in Ranchi. Everything we offer here is on the Funtook Ranchi page, and real setups are on our recent work page.
If the party date moves, cancelling within a day of booking brings a full refund; after that a fee may be charged, and printed boards aren't refundable. The cancellation policy has details, and the contact page reaches us if you'd like help choosing.
