Delhi celebrates birthdays loudly and generously. A thirtieth becomes a rooftop party in Hauz Khas, a first birthday fills a banquet hall in Punjabi Bagh, a grandmother's eightieth brings three generations to a kothi in Defence Colony, and a quiet surprise for a partner still means balloons from floor to ceiling in a Dwarka flat. Whatever the scale, the first thing guests see when they walk in is the decoration, and it's what appears behind every photograph posted that night. Funtook's birthday decoration in Delhi brings that to your home, society, farmhouse or hotel room, set up by our decorators before the birthday person arrives.
Birthday designs start at ₹1,299 for a room of ceiling balloons and go up to ₹7,999 for premium sequin and ring backdrops. Each design page lists the balloons, colours, banner, lights and props included. Choose a design and a time slot, pay a 30% advance or the full amount online, and we take care of the rest.
The quickest way to make someone's morning, or their evening after a long commute. Ceiling balloons, a scatter on the floor, a "Happy Birthday" foil and fairy lights. Start with the Simple Birthday Room Setup (₹1,499) or the Surprise Simple Birthday Room Decoration (₹1,899), or browse all room surprise designs.
For a house party with friends, you need a wall that works for the cake and the photos. The Birthday Celebration Decoration Home (₹2,299) and the Elegant Birthday Arch Decor (₹2,999) suit a living room or a covered terrace.
Delhi does milestone birthdays big. For an eighteenth, a thirtieth, a fiftieth or a parent's seventieth, the premium birthday decors bring chrome palettes, ring frames and balloon walls. The Birthday Decoration Ring Home (₹3,999) and the Birthday Background Decoration (₹6,999) make proper photo walls.

Delhi's homes come in every shape, and each has its quirks.
Builder floors in South and West Delhi, from Malviya Nagar and Lajpat Nagar to Rajouri Garden and Janakpuri, often have narrow staircases, small lifts or none at all, and almost no parking outside. Tell us the floor and whether there's a lift, and share where the decorator can stop to unload; in some colonies, the nearest spot is around the corner.
Group housing societies in Dwarka, Vasant Kunj, Mayur Vihar and Patparganj have guards, visitor registers and sometimes an app. Register the decorator in advance and check whether the society allows decorations in the clubhouse or community hall.
Kothis and independent houses in Defence Colony, Greater Kailash, Vasant Vihar, Civil Lines and Model Town usually have space, high ceilings and lawns or terraces, perfect for bigger backdrops.
Farmhouses in Chhatarpur and around the city's southern edge host many milestone parties. Share the exact gate, a map pin and the caretaker's number, and allow for longer travel on the narrow farm roads.
We decorate across Delhi: South Delhi (Saket, Hauz Khas, Green Park, Malviya Nagar, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony, Vasant Kunj, Chhatarpur), Central and New Delhi (Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Rajinder Nagar, Lodhi Road), West Delhi (Rajouri Garden, Punjabi Bagh, Janakpuri, Tilak Nagar, Paschim Vihar, Dwarka), North Delhi (Model Town, Pitampura, Rohini, Shalimar Bagh, Civil Lines, Kamla Nagar) and East Delhi (Mayur Vihar, Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Patparganj). Always include a landmark; Delhi's block-and-house numbering can be confusing, and two colonies with similar names can sit on opposite sides of the city.
From late April to June, Delhi can touch 45°C, with hot winds in the afternoon; keep balloons indoors, away from sunny windows, and cool the room before guests arrive. The monsoon, from July to September, brings humidity and sudden downpours; terrace and rooftop parties need cover. October and November are festival months, with Dussehra, Diwali and the start of the wedding season, and on days when air quality is poor, it's kinder to keep the party indoors with the windows closed. December and January are cold and often foggy; afternoon terrace parties are lovely, but evenings belong indoors. Around Lohri in mid-January, Christmas and New Year, decorators are in high demand, so book early.
The commuter's return. One partner heads to an office in Connaught Place, Nehru Place or Gurugram; the other has the room decorated in the afternoon. With Delhi's evening traffic on the Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road, a slot finishing by five leaves plenty of margin before they're home.
The midnight surprise. Delhi loves a midnight birthday. Have the decoration set up in the evening while the birthday person is out, then gather friends to walk in together at twelve.
The hotel night. Couples often book a hotel in Aerocity, Connaught Place or South Delhi. Ask the hotel if outside decorators are allowed and choose a compact design such as the Romantic Birthday Decoration Hotel (₹2,999).
Parents at home. Children working in Bangalore, Mumbai or abroad book a decoration for parents in Pitampura or Mayur Vihar, with a neighbour or relative letting the decorator in.
A first birthday in Delhi, especially in Punjabi families, is a full-scale celebration, often with a banquet, a DJ and a hundred-plus guests. Babies born in the months before January also have their first Lohri, which many families celebrate as a separate milestone with a bonfire, songs and a party. For a first birthday, choose soft colours that photograph well, put the baby's name and a large "1" at the centre, and keep the backdrop low enough for a parent to sit in front of it with the baby. For a banquet-hall party, see the birthday organiser packages in Delhi; for a character theme, kids theme decoration in Delhi.
Delhi's builder floors often come with a rooftop terrace, and in the right season a rooftop party is hard to beat, with fairy lights against the evening sky and space for music and a buffet. From October to March, afternoons and early evenings are lovely, though December and January nights get cold, so plan heaters and blankets and keep them well away from the balloons. In summer, rooftops are only comfortable after dark, and even then the concrete radiates heat. In the monsoon, only a covered terrace is safe. Check with the other families in the building before booking the roof, since in many builder floors it's shared, and plan how guests, especially elderly ones, will get up the stairs. A folding chair or two on each landing is a thoughtful touch.
Different parts of Delhi celebrate in their own ways. In West Delhi's Punjabi neighbourhoods, a birthday is often an occasion for a DJ, dancing and a big buffet, so the backdrop should leave room for a dance floor. In South Delhi, many adults prefer a stylish house party with a curated palette and a photo wall. In the old city and the areas around it, family gatherings with elaborate food take centre stage. Bengali families in CR Park may serve payesh on a child's birthday. Whatever the style, tell us how the evening will run, and we'll suggest a design that fits.
From the offices of Connaught Place and Nehru Place to Okhla, Jasola, Saket and Aerocity, Delhi's workplaces celebrate team birthdays too. A desk surprise with ceiling balloons and a banner before the team arrives is quick and cheerful. Most office buildings need the admin team to register the decorator, and some restrict helium or tape. For bigger workplace events, see office and corporate decoration in Delhi.
For an evening party, have the decorator finish by around five. Use the next hour to check the name, switch on the lights and photograph the setup before anyone arrives. Delhi guests often arrive fashionably late, so don't wait for everyone before starting the music. Cut the cake before dinner, when the room is fullest, the elders are still there and the energy is highest, and save the dancing for afterwards, away from the backdrop. The next day, take down the balloons and keep the foils.
A two-bedroom builder floor or DDA flat typically has a living room of about 12 by 15 feet, which comfortably takes a decorated wall with a half arch and still leaves space for guests. A society flat in Dwarka or Vasant Kunj is similar. Kothis in Defence Colony, Greater Kailash or Civil Lines have larger drawing rooms and often a lawn or terrace, which can carry full arches, balloon walls and ring backdrops. A farmhouse party needs scale, with a full backdrop on a stage or lawn. As a rule of thumb, an arch needs 8 to 10 feet of clear wall and a ring backdrop about 8 feet, plus a few feet in front for the cake table.
Take the birthday person alone in front of the backdrop in daylight, before guests arrive. At the cake-cutting, have them stand slightly in front of the design so it's visible behind them. Ask a friend to act as photographer so the hosts appear in the pictures. After sunset, turn off harsh overhead lights and let the fairy lights set the mood. And for a family milestone, gather everyone for one group portrait before the party gets busy.
Delhi makes the rest of a birthday easy to arrange. Sadar Bazar and the wholesale markets of Old Delhi are the traditional places to buy party supplies and return gifts in bulk, and every neighbourhood has a favourite bakery for the cake. For a children's party, match the return gifts to the colours of the decoration; for an adult's milestone, a small box of sweets or a personalised keepsake works well. If you're ordering food, remember to leave a clear route between the kitchen or buffet and the guests that doesn't cut across the photo area.
Send the full address with a landmark, the floor and whether there's a lift. Arrange who will let the decorator in and put their number in the order notes. Clear the wall and set out a table for the cake. Switch off the ceiling fan once helium balloons are up, and keep a socket free for the lights. If you're renting and the landlord is fussy about walls, mention it, and we'll use a free-standing backdrop.
Printed names are made to order and can't be refunded, so check the spelling; Kabir and Kabeer, or Ananya and Annanya, are easily mixed up. Rose gold and white suit daytime parties; black, gold and silver chrome suit evening milestones; pastels suit children and family gatherings. Warm white fairy lights flatter every palette on camera, far more than multicoloured ones.
