Delhi children grow up with a lot to be excited about: a morning at the zoo near Purana Qila, a trip to the Rail Museum in Chanakyapuri, winter picnics in Lodhi Garden, kite-flying on Independence Day. So when their birthday comes, they rarely hesitate about the theme. Jungle for the one who's memorised every animal, Frozen for the one who sings "Let It Go" at full volume, Spiderman for the climber, dinosaurs for the one with the plastic T-rex under the pillow. Funtook's kids theme decoration in Delhi turns that theme into a backdrop, whether the party's in a builder floor in Janakpuri, a society clubhouse in Dwarka, an RWA community hall in Pitampura or a banquet in Punjabi Bagh.
The cheapest theme design, ₹1,399, is a burst of character balloons with a banner; the most elaborate, ₹8,500, is a stage-sized backdrop with arches and figures as tall as the children. Open any design to see its full contents. Pick a design and a slot, and our decorators will have it ready before the first little guest rings the bell, balloons up and name in place.
Cocomelon and Baby Shark are the songs every toddler in Delhi seems to know. Boss Baby is a parents' favourite for first birthdays. Try the Baby Shark Kids Birthday Decoration (₹2,799) or the Boss Baby Room Birthday Decoration (₹2,899).
The jungle theme pairs perfectly with a morning at the zoo. The Premium Wild Safari Decor (₹2,999) is a favourite, and dinosaur fans love the Theme Dinosaur Birthday Decor (₹8,500).
Frozen, unicorn, mermaid and Barbie dominate for girls from three to eight. The Theme Unicorn Kids Birthday Decor (₹2,999) and the Theme Mermaid Kids Birthday (₹3,499) are popular.
The superhero theme suits energetic five- to ten-year-olds. Young cricketers and footballers often want team colours; the Football Theme Birthday Decoration (₹4,499) adapts well. Car-mad children, perhaps fresh from the Rail Museum, love the Car Theme Birthday Decoration (₹2,899).
Still undecided? All theme decors has Mickey, Minnie, Peppa, Tom and Jerry, Shinchan, butterflies, rainbows and Wednesday, among others.

Builder floors. Living rooms in Janakpuri, Rajouri Garden, Lajpat Nagar and Malviya Nagar usually fit a themed wall with an arch. Tell us the floor and whether there's a lift, and plan where the decorator can stop to unload, since colony lanes are narrow and packed with parked cars.
Rooftops. From October to March, a rooftop party is great fun; plan it for the afternoon in December and January, when evenings turn cold and foggy. In summer, only after dark.
RWA community halls and society clubhouses. Many Delhi colonies have a community hall or centre run by the RWA or the local authority, and societies in Dwarka, Vasant Kunj and Mayur Vihar have clubhouses. Book it with enough setup time, check the rules on tape and helium, and register the decorator with the guard or caretaker a day ahead.
Banquet halls. West Delhi's banquet halls host many first birthdays with a DJ and a hundred guests. If you need something on that scale, our Delhi birthday organiser packages are built for big halls.
Delhi first birthdays can be grand, particularly in Punjabi families, where the party might include a DJ, a dance floor, a live counter and a guest list that tops a hundred. Many begin the day with a visit to a gurdwara or temple. Choose a soft theme that photographs beautifully, put the baby's name and a big "1" at the centre, and keep the backdrop low enough for a parent to sit in front of it with the baby. Leave the dance floor well away from the decoration, and set up a quiet room for naps; a one-year-old rarely lasts through a long evening of dhol and greetings, and a rested baby makes for far happier cake photographs.
Summer holidays fall in May and June, Delhi's hottest weeks; keep parties indoors in a cooled room, balloons away from sunny windows. The monsoon brings humidity and sudden rain, so rooftops need cover. In late October and November, when air quality can be poor, keep children's parties indoors with the windows closed. Winter is the busiest party season, with pleasant afternoons, foggy evenings, and Christmas and New Year breaks. Book a week ahead for winter weekends.
Delhi makes it easy to turn a birthday into a whole themed day. A jungle-party child will love a morning at the National Zoological Park before the celebration. A car or train enthusiast can spend a happy hour at the National Rail Museum in Chanakyapuri, riding the toy train. A child who loves dolls, or any little traveller, will enjoy Shankar's International Dolls Museum on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. Space-mad children can visit the Nehru Planetarium, and we can match the party's balloons to a galaxy palette of navy, silver and purple. The outing tires children out just enough that they arrive at the party excited rather than overwrought, and gives them a story to tell every guest who walks in.
Delhi hosts are generous, and a children's party often has a full buffet for the adults, from chole-bhature and paneer tikka to pasta counters. The children, however, eat little. A separate low table with mini samosas, mini pizzas, fries, sandwiches, cut fruit and juice, served before the adults' buffet, keeps them fed and out from underfoot. Keep the cake and sticky sweets away from the backdrop until after the photographs, and put a bin and a box of tissues next to the children's table.
When the party moves to an RWA hall, a clubhouse or a banquet, the venue and food usually take most of the budget, followed by the cake, return gifts, a photographer and any entertainer. Choose the decoration to match the room: a themed wall looks thin in a big banquet hall, and a large backdrop can swamp a small community room. Decide the venue and guest list first, then pick the design.
If you want more than decoration, Delhi has plenty of party entertainers. Toddlers are happiest with bubbles, soft toys and nursery rhymes; loud acts frighten them. Four- to six-year-olds love magicians, puppet shows and a host who runs musical chairs and treasure hunts. Older children enjoy tattoo artists, caricaturists, science shows and a dance-off. On a rooftop or in a large hall, a small bouncy castle is a hit in the cooler months. Tell us where any performer will be so the backdrop goes on a different wall.
Parents who've thrown a few Delhi birthday parties tend to say the same things. They finished the setup too close to the start, so early relatives watched the decorator work. They put the backdrop opposite a window, and every photo came out dark. They chose a theme they loved but the child didn't ask for. They squeezed a big design into a small builder-floor living room, leaving no space to play. And they forgot to book the RWA hall before booking everything else. A little planning avoids all five.
Take the birthday child alone in front of the backdrop before anyone arrives. At the cake-cutting, stand them just in front of the design so the characters show behind them. Nominate an aunt or uncle as photographer so both parents appear in the pictures. After sunset, turn off harsh tube lights and let the fairy lights glow, and finish with the children lined up holding their goody bags.
Delhi's children's parties bring together families from every corner of India, and small touches make everyone feel at home. Punjabi families often open with a short ardas or visit to the gurdwara in the morning and a lively party in the evening. Bengali families in CR Park may serve payesh. South Indian families might begin with a temple visit and a traditional lunch. Muslim families in the old city often host a dawat. None of this changes the decoration, but a little space in front of the backdrop for a puja thali or a prayer, and a menu with clearly separated vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, show thought for every guest.
A builder-floor living room of about 12 by 15 feet takes a themed wall with a half arch and still leaves floor space for games. An RWA hall or clubhouse suits a wider backdrop with standees. A banquet hall needs a full stage-style setup or it looks bare. Measure the wall and put it in the order notes if you're unsure; an arch needs about 8 to 10 feet, plus room in front for the cake table.
Delhi's winter holidays make December a favourite month for children's parties. Schools close for the Christmas break, Connaught Place and the malls light up, and there's a festive mood across the city. A Frozen or winter-wonderland look in blue, white and silver suits the season, as does red, green and gold for a child who wants a Christmas twist. Hold the party in the afternoon, when the sun is out, and move indoors before the fog and cold arrive. Christmas week and New Year's Eve are among our busiest dates, so book at least a week ahead.
Children do best with a short, well-paced party. Welcome early arrivals with a colouring table or a bubble machine; start games about twenty minutes in; cut the cake at the one-hour mark, while faces are still fresh and the light is good; then serve food and give return gifts at the door. Most small guests are ready to leave after two hours, and parents appreciate a clear end time printed on the invitation.
A jungle party calls for animal charades; a Frozen party for freeze dance; a superhero party for a cushion obstacle course; a mermaid or Baby Shark party for "fishing" with paper fish and a magnet. Car fans can race toy cars down a cardboard ramp. Play them away from the decorated wall so it survives for the cake photos.
In a small Delhi flat full of excited children, a little vigilance goes a long way. Ask one grown-up to pounce on popped balloons, because toddlers put the scraps in their mouths. Tie helium bunches with short ribbons. The backdrop frame is decoration, not a climbing frame. Our wiring runs along the walls, and a latex allergy is easily handled with foil if you warn us. In a builder floor, the staircase door should stay shut while the party's on.
Most designs include a printed board with the child's name and age; send the spelling exactly, as the board can't be changed or refunded later. Sadar Bazar is the traditional place to buy return gifts and party supplies in bulk; match them to the theme, and pack them in bags of the same colours. For music, our Hindi birthday songs list is handy, and 21 birthday decor ideas for girls is full of ideas.
For a party without characters, see birthday decoration in Delhi and its kids special range. For a new sibling, newborn welcome decoration in Delhi. Grandparents far away can send a balloon bouquet in Delhi, and plain arches are on balloon decoration in Delhi. Every service is on the Funtook Delhi page, and real setups are on our recent work page.
Cancel in the first 24 hours after booking and you're refunded completely; later, a fee may apply, and printed boards aren't refundable. See the cancellation policy, or contact us for help choosing a theme.
